For a day in Tama you need three things sorted before you leave your hotel: a working IC card, a plan for your bags, and mobile data that doesn’t depend on station Wi-Fi. The trains to Tama Center and Seiseki Sakuragaoka (Keio, Odakyu and the Tama Monorail) all take IC cards. Puroland has paid lockers inside. Big suitcases are better sent ahead or left at your hotel than carried through Shinjuku Station.

1. IC cards: which one to get

Keio says its trains accept paper tickets and PASMO. PASMO states that Suica and the other nationwide IC cards also work in PASMO areas, so any of the cards below will get you from central Tokyo to Tama Center and onto the Tama Monorail.

These are the visitor-specific options, as of October 2026:

CardValidityDeposit / refundWhere to get it
Welcome Suica (physical card, JR East)28 days including the day of purchaseNo deposit; balance not refundedWelcome Suica vending machines at Narita and Haneda airports, JR EAST Travel Service Centers
Welcome Suica Mobile (app, JR East)180 days from issueRemaining balance is not refundedApp on iPhone / Apple Watch
TOURIST PASMO (physical card)28 days from purchaseNo deposit; value not refundedKeikyu at Haneda Airport (Terminals 1, 2 and 3), Keisei at Narita Airport (Terminals 1 and 2)

A few details from the official pages:

  • TOURIST PASMO is sold in amounts from ¥1,000 to ¥10,000 at Haneda. At Narita’s Keisei information centers it is sold only as a ¥2,000 card. You can top it up with cash at station ticket machines, up to a ¥20,000 balance.
  • If your phone already has a Suica or PASMO in its wallet, that works too. PASMO’s visitor site supports Apple Pay.
  • IC fares are slightly cheaper than paper tickets. From Shinjuku (新宿) to Keio-Tama-Center (京王多摩センター) the adult fare is ¥356 by IC and ¥360 by ticket on Keio’s fare table (as of October 2026).

Do you need a day pass?

Probably not for a simple Puroland trip. Keio sells a Keio Line & Inokashira Line one-day ticket for ¥1,000 (adult) at its ticket machines, and it can also be loaded onto a PASMO. A Shinjuku–Keio Tama Center round trip costs ¥712 by IC, so the pass only pays off if you add more Keio stops the same day, such as Seiseki Sakuragaoka. The Tama Monorail is a separate company and is not included.

Keio also sells the Keio Amusement Passport, which combines a Keio one-day ticket with Puroland admission. It’s available from Keio ticket machines; see our article on Keio train and Puroland tickets.

2. Luggage: where your bags can go

At Tama Center Station

All three stations at Tama Center have coin lockers:

  • Keio Tama Center: Keio’s station map (as of the end of March 2026) shows coin lockers and a locker that can receive parcels.
  • Odakyu Tama Center (小田急多摩センター): coin lockers are listed among the station facilities.
  • Tama Monorail Tama-Center (多摩センター): coin lockers are outside the ticket gates.

Sizes and availability aren’t published, so treat station lockers as a backup. More on the station layout in our Tama Center Station guide.

At Puroland

Puroland’s official FAQ (checked October 2026) lists:

  • Cashless lockers on 3F, from ¥300 to ¥1,000 depending on size, for same-day use only.
  • If the lockers are full or your bag doesn’t fit, the 3F information counter keeps it for ¥1,000 per item.
  • An umbrella cloak (with umbrella bags if it fills up).
  • Delivery of items bought at Puroland, arranged at the 3F entrance shop (some items can’t be sent).

For most visitors, Puroland’s own lockers are the simplest choice. You drop your bag after entering and pick it up when you leave.

Sending a suitcase ahead

If you’re moving hotels, for example from Shinjuku to a hotel along the Keio Line, Yamato Transport’s FAQ says hotel-to-hotel delivery is possible if both hotels accept parcels at the front desk. Ask both hotels first. Yamato advises sending it so it arrives at least one day before your stay. You can ship from convenience stores or Yamato offices.

Airport buses instead of trains

Keio’s FAQ lists airport limousine bus stops at Keio Tama Center and Seiseki Sakuragaoka (聖蹟桜ヶ丘), for both Haneda and Narita. If you arrive with heavy bags and your hotel is in Tama, a bus can save you from carrying them through Shinjuku. Check the bus timetable before you plan around it.

3. Mobile data (one short note)

Don’t count on free Wi-Fi in Tama. Keio’s FAQ lists its station Wi-Fi only at Shinjuku, Kitano, Takao and Takaosanguchi, plus on-board Wi-Fi on 5000-series trains. You’ll want your own data for maps, Puroland’s visit reservation and train times.

If your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM, buying a Japan data eSIM before you fly is usually the simplest option. Install it at home and switch it on when you land. Otherwise, check your home carrier’s roaming plan or rent a pocket Wi-Fi at the airport.

For mobile data, a Japan eSIM from Yesim can be set up on your phone before you fly.

Checklist for the night before

  • IC card in your wallet or phone, with enough balance for a round trip (from Shinjuku: ¥712 by IC)
  • Puroland passport ticket and visit reservation saved on your phone
  • Big suitcase left at the hotel or forwarded. A small bag will fit Puroland’s lockers
  • Umbrella if rain is forecast: Puroland is indoors, but the entry queue is outside
  • Mobile data working without Wi-Fi
  • Route checked: see Shinjuku to Puroland or from Tokyo Station, Shibuya and Haneda
