If you want to see both Seiseki Sakuragaoka (the Whisper of the Heart town) and Sanrio Puroland without commuting from central Tokyo each day, Takahatafudo is the most practical base. It is two stops from Seiseki on the Keio Line and 12 minutes from Tama Center on the Tama Monorail. Fuchu and Keio Hachioji are good alternatives with more hotel choice. If Puroland is the main event, stay at Tama Center itself.

There are very few hotels right by Seiseki Sakuragaoka Station. Puroland’s own list of nearby hotels, for example, does not include any there. So the question is really which Keio Line station to stay near.

How the lines fit together

The Keio network splits at Chofu, and that split matters more than distance:

  • Keio Line (main line): Shinjuku (新宿) → Chofu (調布) → Fuchu (府中) → Seiseki Sakuragaoka (聖蹟桜ヶ丘) → Takahatafudo (高幡不動) → Keio Hachioji (京王八王子)
  • Keio Sagamihara Line: Chofu → Keio Tama Center (京王多摩センター, for Puroland) → Hashimoto (橋本)
  • Tama Monorail: links Takahatafudo and Tama Center (多摩センター) directly, in 12 minutes (Tama Monorail official fare and time table)

Seiseki is on the main line and Puroland is on the Sagamihara Line. A base on the main line (Fuchu, Takahatafudo, Hachioji) is close to Seiseki. Takahatafudo also has the monorail shortcut to Tama Center.

Bases compared

Fares are adult one-way fares from Shinjuku on Keio’s fare table, as of October 2026 (ticket / IC card).

  • City Hotel Takahata: 2 minutes from Keio Takahatafudo Station. A small, practical option at the station where the Keio Line and Tama Monorail meet.

Fuchu and Higashi-Fuchu

  • Hotel Keyaki Gate Tokyo Fuchu: 1 minute from Keio Fuchu Station.
  • Toyoko Inn at Keio Higashi-Fuchu (東府中) Station (north exit): 2 minutes from the station, one stop toward Shinjuku from Fuchu.

Keio Hachioji / JR Hachioji

  • Keio Plaza Hotel Hachioji: Puroland’s official hotel. 3 minutes from Keio Hachioji Station and 1 minute from the JR Hachioji (八王子) North Exit, according to the hotel. It offers Sanrio character rooms (Hello Kitty Room, My Melody & Kuromi Room and, since March 2026, Little Twin Stars Room) and plans that include a Sanrio Puroland day passport. Plans, prices and booking rules change, so check the hotel’s plan page.

Tama Center

  • LINK FOREST: about 10 minutes on foot from Keio and Odakyu Tama Center Stations and 8 minutes from the monorail station. It is a training and conference facility that also takes individual guests. Book through its official site.

Note that Keio Plaza Hotel Tama, the hotel next to Tama Center Station that many older guides recommend, closed in January 2023. For more options near the park, see Where to Stay Near Sanrio Puroland.

Hashimoto

  • Toyoko Inn at Keio Hashimoto Station (north exit): 4 minutes from Hashimoto Station (JR and Keio).
  • Hashimoto Park Hotel: 5 minutes from JR Hashimoto Station.

A two-day plan from Takahatafudo

Day 1, Seiseki Sakuragaoka. Take the Keio Line two stops to Seiseki Sakuragaoka. Walk the Whisper of the Heart route in the morning while it is cooler (part of the route climbs a hill), then come back for an early night. See How to Get to Seiseki Sakuragaoka From Shinjuku for the station layout.

Day 2, Puroland. Take the Tama Monorail from Takahatafudo to Tama-Center (12 minutes), then walk about 5 minutes to the park. Puroland needs both a passport ticket and a visit reservation.

Sanrio Puroland official site

You can also book Sanrio Puroland e-tickets on Klook.

The same plan works from Fuchu or Hachioji. You’ll only add a few stops.

Getting there with luggage

Keio’s FAQ lists airport limousine bus stops along its lines. Haneda buses stop at Chofu, Fuchu, Seiseki Sakuragaoka, Keio Hachioji, Keio Tama Center and others. Narita buses stop at Chofu, Fuchu, Seiseki Sakuragaoka, Keio Tama Center and others. If you have big suitcases, a hotel near one of these stops can save you from changing trains with luggage. Check the bus operator’s timetable before you book.

Which base should you pick?

  • Both places, fewest changes: Takahatafudo
  • More dinner options, still close to Seiseki: Fuchu
  • Hello Kitty room or a hotel package with Puroland: Keio Plaza Hotel Hachioji
  • Puroland is the main reason for the trip, especially with kids: Tama Center
  • Only one day in the area: you may not need to move hotels at all. See Shinjuku Hotels With a Direct Train to Puroland and Day trip or overnight?

Prices and hours change. Check the official site before you go.
