Small children usually have the most energy in the morning, so do Sanrio Puroland from opening until lunch, then spend the afternoon outdoors. The easiest option is Tama Central Park, about 5 minutes on foot from Tama Center Station. If you want a bigger outing, the Tama Monorail takes 23 minutes to Tachikawa-Kita, a short walk from GREEN SPRINGS and Showa Kinen Park.

One thing to correct before you plan: Puroland does not ban strollers. The official rule is narrower, and it is explained below. All details are from official sites, checked in October 2026.

Which plan? Choose Plan A for toddlers, for a weekday with a short attention span, or if your bags are in Tama Center. Choose Plan B if your children are a bit older, the weather is good, and you’re happy to finish the day in Tachikawa.

Strollers: what the rule actually says

Puroland’s official page for families says:

  • On weekends, public holidays, and weekdays when the park closes at 18:00, strollers cannot be used on the 1st and 2nd floors. Other floors and other days are not covered by this rule.
  • Strollers can’t go into the Baby Center. Leave them in the stroller parking area, folded. Puroland isn’t responsible for loss or theft there.
  • No baby carriers are lent, so bring your own if your child still needs one.

On busy days, plan to park the stroller and carry younger children for part of the visit. Opening times change by date, so check the hours and closed days guide before you set an alarm. Our Puroland with kids guide covers the Baby Center, age limits and food.

Tickets: book before the day

You need a passport (ticket) and a free visit reservation. Prices vary by date. The official e-passport includes the reservation. See the tickets guide for how this works.

Puroland’s English page for overseas visitors lists Klook, KKday, Trip.com, Rakuten Travel, MyRealTrip and DHA Mobile as external sales partners. Puroland says questions about tickets bought there must go to the site you bought from. If you use a partner, check that the product page explains how the visit reservation works.

When to leave

For a 2- to 5-year-old, three to four hours inside is usually plenty. Our half-day itinerary suggests which shows to prioritise. Puroland allows same-day re-entry with a hand stamp, so in Plan A you could come back after the park, but most families with toddlers won’t need to.

Bags and strollers: where to leave them

Families carry a lot. Here are your options, as far as official sources confirm:

OptionPriceNotes
Puroland 3F lockers¥300 / ¥700 / ¥1,000 by sizeCashless only, same day only
Puroland 3F information counter¥1,000 per itemWhen lockers are full or your bag doesn’t fit
Station coin lockers (Keio, Odakyu, Tama Monorail)Not publishedSizes and prices aren’t on the operators’ sites. See the station guide
ecbo cloak (luggage storage app)Shown in the appHas a Tama Center Station area page, but we couldn’t confirm specific partner shops

About ecbo cloak: ecbo cloak lets you book space in shops to leave bags, and it accepts strollers as large items. Its site has a page for the Tama Center Station area, but the list of places loads in the app or browser and we couldn’t confirm any specific partner, price or opening hours. Check the map for your date before relying on it. Don’t count on a place being there just because a blog mentions it.

For Plan B, keep the stroller with you. Showa Kinen Park also lends strollers free at each gate, first come, first served, according to its families page.

Afternoon, Plan A: Tama Central Park

Tama Central Park is about 5 minutes on foot from Tama Center Station and close to Puroland. The official site describes about 110,000 m² of park with a large lawn, a large pond, play equipment areas and a children’s terrace, and a flower and bakery cafe. It reopened after a renovation in April 2025.

Picnic checklist

  • Buy lunch or snacks outside Puroland. Puroland doesn’t allow outside food inside (except for dietary restrictions), so shop on the way to the park instead.
  • Bring a picnic mat. The park’s site doesn’t publish mat or tent rules, so follow any signs on the lawn.
  • The park map shows toilets, including accessible ones.
  • If it rains, go back to Puroland using your re-entry stamp, or see rainy-day options in Tama.

For food options around the station, see where to eat near Sanrio Puroland.

Afternoon, Plan B: monorail to Tachikawa

Getting there

The Tama Monorail runs from Tama-Center to Tachikawa-Kita in 23 minutes with no change. The adult fare is ¥408 by IC card (¥410 ticket), and children pay half (as of October 2026). The monorail station is next to the Keio and Odakyu stations. Strollers can use the elevators to the platforms.

GREEN SPRINGS

GREEN SPRINGS is a shopping and dining district built around green open spaces, about 4 minutes on foot from Tachikawa-Kita (about 8 minutes from JR Tachikawa).

  • PLAY! PARK (W3, 3F) is an indoor kids’ play space with large play structures, craft and music areas and daily workshops. Hours: weekdays 10:00–17:00, weekends and holidays 10:00–18:00, with last entry one hour before closing. Check its official page for admission fees.
  • PLAY! MUSEUM (W3, 2F) is a picture-book and illustration museum, and its exhibitions change through the year.
  • The lawn plaza is only open on set days. For October 2026 the official notice lists specific open dates. Strollers, pets and non-breathable picnic sheets aren’t allowed on the natural grass. Check the notice for your date.
  • The cascade (water feature) can be closed for events. Check the GREEN SPRINGS homepage notices.

GREEN SPRINGS is a good choice when you want indoor backup and plenty of places to eat, not a big walk.

Showa Kinen Park

Showa Kinen Park is a very large national park. From Tachikawa-Kita (Park exit), the Akebono Gate is about 8 minutes on foot.

ItemOfficial information (as of October 2026)
Hours9:30–17:00 (March–October); 9:30–16:30 (November–February); until 18:00 on weekends and holidays, April–September
Closed31 Dec, 1 Jan, and from the 3rd Monday of January to the Friday of that week
AdmissionAdults (high school and older) ¥450; 65 and over ¥210; junior high school students and younger free
Re-entrySame day, with a re-entry ticket from gate staff
For familiesFree stroller lending at each gate (first come); a children’s forest area and playground equipment

Hours can change for events. See the official schedule. The park is big, and the children’s areas are not right by the gate. If you leave Puroland around 13:00, you’ll have about two to three hours in the park before it closes, so pick one area rather than trying to see it all.

Getting home

  • From Tama Center: Keio or Odakyu trains toward Shinjuku (新宿). See Puroland from Shinjuku.
  • From Tachikawa: JR trains from Tachikawa Station (about 8 minutes on foot from GREEN SPRINGS) toward central Tokyo, or the monorail back to Tama Center if your bags are there.

If you’d rather not travel with tired children at the end of the day, compare options in where to stay near Sanrio Puroland.

Before you go: checklist

  • Puroland passport and visit reservation booked for your date
  • Opening time checked on Puroland’s schedule
  • Baby carrier packed (no lending at Puroland)
  • Picnic food bought outside Puroland (Plan A)
  • GREEN SPRINGS lawn open days or Showa Kinen Park hours checked (Plan B)
  • IC card topped up for the monorail

Prices and hours change. Check the official site before you go.
